About Colin Smith
Colin is a Glaswegian New Zealander based in California. He does amazing landscape work and is an official DJI Expert, producing breathtaking aerial shots in and around California. Colin is also a Photoshop (and Adobe in general guru ) and is a regular speaker at events all over the world where he shares his knowledge with the masses. When he is not staring at a tiny screen in his hands on the coast somewhere, or giving a talk, he somehow finds the time to run http://photoshopcafe.com/ and DroneHowto.com which is a one-stop resource for all things drones and photo manipulation producing on-line, downloadable and live stream tutorials. In this capacity Colin is also a published author 20 times over and recently had his work featured in a two page spread in the DJI Coffee table book Above The World.
He recently finished his latest book, The Photographers Guide to Drones (Published by Rocky Nook).
Photoshopcafe.com was founded in the year 2000. It was created out of a need. At the time, all the Photoshop tricks were all closely guarded secrets. It was very difficult to find information on how to do different things in Adobe Photoshop and best practices, were almost impossible to find. In an attempt to make this information more accessible to artists and to further digital art, Colin Smith, decided to start PhotoshopCAFE.com as the free resource for Photoshop users of all kinds.
It quickly became one of the most popular Photoshop resources on the internet. Today, it’s one of the longest running free Photoshop sites and still going strong with fresh content added weekly.
In the same Spirit of PhotoshopCAFE, comes Drone HowTo. Today Colin (It’s actually Colin typing about myself in the 2nd person) sees the same need in the drone imaging space. Having been bitten by the drone bug early, I have been Fly-Shoot-Edit-Repeat for several years now. I have noticed that there are a ton of self proclaimed “experts” fighting to get to the top of the heap and make some money. Because of this “gold rush” there is a lot of misinformation out there. People don’t know what settings to use, which drones and accessories to invest in and how to bring the most out of their photographs and videos in post production software. The purpose of starting DroneHowTo, is to bring all of the info together in 1 place to help people fly shoot and edit with the information they need. I hope that DHT becomes as popular as PhotoshopCAFE and helps as many people.
