My DJI Spark was taken down by a seagull! Watch video
So, on only day 2 of my Spark, I took it out for some pickup shots to finish my Spark Review video. I was personally attacked by a seagull and then it took my spark down. In the video I tell all the circumstances around it and show live video from the spark camera as it goes down.
One of the things that I have learned is that seagulls are territorial (especially while nesting). They will guard their territory and scare off intruders. Generally speaking, they swoop at my other drones and make noise. This is more of a warning. Usually, flying away horizontally, just ends up in you getting chase by the gull. A better approach is an increase in altitude. Usually when you fly up, the gull will break off chase. I’m not sure why this is, but it seems to be a typical gull behavior.
However, with the size of the Spark drone, the gulls don’t seem intimidated and this one flew directly at the drone and slammed it with its legs as it went by, effectively knocking the drone into the ocean. It’s something to be aware of while flying the spark. You may not get the warnings that you had with the larger drones.
Anyway, I hope you liked my little video and perhaps got a little giggle out of my “reenactment animation.”
